Faith

Hello, it's a sparrow in Baltimore
counting shards of light across my floor,
as felonious phantoms swing down to the ground.
I cover my ears but I can still hear,
all of the echoes
all of the sounds.

Your song is sweet and it moves my feet
my sadness is still incomplete.
I no longer fear the reaper.
I no longer wish to compete.
I'm tired worn and blindfolded,
and ready to take that faithful leap.

Blessed

When all the bombs go silent,
the murder of ravens is gone,
hold tight
close your eyes
together we'll go on.
We rise from the twisted aftermath,
stronger than we were before.
We are our own reflections
and we'll break down the door.
You're my constellation
my muse, my aching, my partner in crime.
When I count my blessings
I thank the angels that you're mine.

Ocean

The city's gears are grinding
talk about my timing,
I'm another poet in a generation lost.
My body keeps climbing
though the unseen binding,
I hope to leave before the first frost.
Love's sweet destruction
is but an interruption,
I want to be electricity racing in the sky,
but my veiled resolve
immediately dissolves
presumed strength becomes my only disguise.
A moment's distraction
can give traction
to events never put into motion.
Papers moved
and pages smoothed,
all intentions roam back to the ocean.

Grande Pretender

The solitary summer breeze
is kissing my pale face.
The world is singing "let it be"
because too soon it will be too late.

September sirens are returning,
I've always loved those grey winged birds,
carrying with them the chill of autumn.
When it's all under control,
out drops the bottom,
and all that's left is broken words.
Destroy me and abuse me
rip a hole and walk right through me,
leave me shaking in the streets,
and don't look back to see me.

I am the grande pretender,
singing with swallows
that are bound for the south.
I look past my window,
and I surrender
to the lyrics of the lake
that escape through my mouth.

Walk My Mile

Ramble me away from here,
past the grieving ghostly scraps
of my soul cemetery.
Oh, devil on my shoulder
sing to me a lullaby,
burn the bridges to the ground,
and say it's all my fault.
Some love's like a murder of crows,
that scatter when you approach too fast.
They don’t make a sound.
Silence is sacred
in an unholy world.

Dragon

Smash the glass
and pull the lever;
sound the alarm and vanish.
Wake the world
from a shore of feathers,
fight until your heart is banished.
Pointless though the chase may be,
my feet still take to flight.
I surrender to lunar dance
and catch that elusive dragon tonight.

Stolen

Someone stole a smile from me,
under lock and key,
it’s dedicated to the past.
I decisively throw back my head
and let out a great laugh;
live the life you’ve craved,
worldly things in time do pass.
Suddenly,
I can barely hold my breath.
All the lights went out,
I’m finally scared to death.

It all that’s left,
are these unrequited songs.
Maybe I’ll trip down the melodies
and maybe I’m just wrong.
I’m wrong about the time gone by
wrong about the way,
wrong about desire denied
and things other people say.

I can’t be wrong about everything,
though I act a fool;
for true love I’d do anything
but I must break every the rules.
